RHP Michael Lorenzen of the Royals (hamstring) leaves the game early.

In the second inning of the Kansas City Royals’ game against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field on August 27, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen, 24, leaves the field with what appears to be an injury.

August 28 – Tuesday night against the home Cleveland Guardians, Kansas City Royals starting Michael Lorenzen left the game in the second inning due to a left hamstring strain, albeit the injury is not thought to be significant. The right-hander appeared to have hurt himself covering first base earlier in the frame while attempting to turn a 3-6-1 double play. After that play, Lorenzen continued to play and struck out Lane Thomas of Cleveland.
He did, however, leave with a 1-0 count on Bo Naylor, who ended the round with a fanned against Carlos Hernandez. In 1 2/3 scoreless innings, Lorenzen allowed the Guardians to muster just one hit and one walk. Royals manager Matt Quatraro stated after the game, which Kansas City won 6-1, that he thought the injury was “mild,” However, he believes Lorenzen won’t be able to pitch when it’s his turn again in the rotation. On Wednesday, Lorenzen will return to Kansas City for an MRI.
